Mendelssohn Elijah

Sherborne Festival Chorus
with a period orchestra
Conductor Paul Ellis

Composed in 1846 and premiered to a rapturous reception at the Birmingham Music Festival, Mendelssohn's Elijah is one of the towering masterpieces of the oratorio repertoire. Drawing on the dramatic Old Testament story of the prophet Elijah, it moves from fierce confrontation and miraculous deeds to moments of profound tenderness and spiritual transcendence – a work of electrifying contrasts, richly expressive arias, and magnificent choral writing.

A period orchestra and a team of top soloists will perform alongside the Festival's own choir, for an inspirational and uplifting opening to the Festival.

Tickets details will be available from Sherborne Abbey Festival in due course.
